Goan artist, Delhi gurgaon, figurative artist

Sonia Rodrigues Sabharwal (b. 1968) obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Goa College of Art in 1989. The artist uses forms and colours to communicate with their audience beyond words.

Through her work, Sonia explores the subconscious, creating figurative forms and mysterious auras that can be both fairytale-like and enigmatic. A narrative is portrayed in the paintings, illustrating the tenderness of human minds, bodies, and souls, as well as highlighting the intersection of human and organic forms found in nature. A strong focus on relationships drives the artist's creative process and inspires her storytelling.

In 1992-93, she received a Research Grant Scholarship from Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. In 1994, she was nominated for the UNESCO Award in Painting by Kala Academy, Goa and has since won State Art Awards in Painting instituted by the Government of Goa in 1994, 1996, and 1997.

The artist was also a recipient of the Artistic Residency Program at the Convent Da Arrabida, Portugal from the Fundação Oriente of Portugal in 2002.

The artist has held ten solo shows and participated in numerous group exhibitions and art camps, nationally and internationally.
