Sumana Som

Statement

Born in Burdwan, West Bengal, Sumana Som completed her bachelor's degree at the College of Art & Design, University of Burdwan, in 2011 and her master's at the University of Hyderabad, Telangana, in 2013. She earned her PhD as a partner research fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad and the Swinburne University of Technology in Victoria, Australia, in 2022. Beginning her career in the creative field as a painter, she gradually integrated multiple mediums into her work and is currently exploring 3D software and interactive devices.

Sumana has received several accolades, including the Inlaks Fine Arts Award (2013), Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants (2016), the 55th National Award in New Delhi (2014), the Junior Research Fellowship from the UGC (2015), and the Swinburne Postgraduate Research Award from SUPRA (2018-19). Additionally, she was awarded a research excellence certificate from IIT Hyderabad in 2022.
