Sojwal Samant

Statement

Sojwal Samant was born in Baroda in 1972 and completed her Bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University in 1994. She subsequently obtained a Diploma and a Post-Diploma in sculpture in 1998 and 2000, respectively. Additionally, Samant participated in a three-month exchange programme at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1999 to 2000.

Initially, her artistic focus was on creating witty sculptures that combined various media. However, her more recent works tend to be made from a single medium and convey subtler messages. Samant attributes this evolution in her practice to her experiences of motherhood and the birth of her first child, which profoundly altered her life.
