Shanthamani Muddaiah, born in 1967, graduated from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts in Mysore and holds a postgraduate degree in Painting from M.S. University in Baroda. In 2004, she pursued a specialised study in paper-making in Glasgow, Scotland, supported by a Charles Wallace Scholarship. Muddaiah's notable solo exhibitions include Neither Tree nor Ash in Paris (2016), Reflections in Bangalore (2010), and Carbon Myths in the United States (2010). Her work has been widely showcased at prestigious events, such as the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2014) and the India Art Fair (2014).
Throughout her career, she has received several awards and fellowships, including the National Senior Fellowship (2012–14) and the Junior Fellowship (2006–08) from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, New Delhi, as well as the Inlaks Take Off Grant in 1992. Shanthamani Muddaiah currently resides and works in Bangalore, Karnataka.
