Shyamli Singbal

Statement

Shyamli Singbal (b.1994) graduated with a BFA in Painting from M.S.U, Baroda, following which she completed her MFA from the University of Goldsmiths, London in 2020. Apart from being an artist, Shyamli is also an art & museum educator. Shyamli’s drawings and paintings freeze fleeting, everyday moments of care in an attempt to re-live and memorialise them.

No larger than two handspans in length or width, Shyamli’s works echo the intimate nature of the moments they record with their scale; An invitation for the viewer to come close rather than announce their presence in the space. Shyamli’s choice of medium with every artwork is a deliberate effort to amplify the nonchalance of the moment itself.
