Yashas Shetty is an artist and musician based in Bangalore, India. His practice is rooted at the intersection of pedagogy, art, and science. He is an artist in residence at the Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, where he set up the Center for Experimental Media Arts (CEMA) and Art ScienceBLR, a public laboratory that facilitates discursive projects between artists, scientists, and the public. He is the co-founder of the critically acclaimed Hackteria.org, a life science technologies platform. In 2006, he founded The Indian Sonic Research Organisation, a community research laboratory for experimental music and sound art.
Yashas's work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and festivals around the world, including Haus Der Kulturen der Welt (2020), Taipei Biennial (2012), ArsElectronica, Linz (2012), Fundación Botín, Spain (2013), and Science Gallery, Dublin (2014). His practice has received critical acclaim and won awards at the Ars Electronica Festival, Linz / Austria (2011 and 2012), the International Genetic Engineered Machines competition at MIT (in 2009 and 2011) and the BIOMOD competition at Harvard University (2011).
