Katharina Holstein-Sturm

Statement

Katharina Holstein-Sturm (b. 1968, Hamburg) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, and artist books. Trained in Communication Design in Würzburg, Germany, she has worked as a freelance artist and graphic designer since 1998. Deeply engaged with socially responsive art, Holstein-Sturm conducts art and art-therapy workshops for children, refugees, the disabled, and the mentally ill. Her practice integrates visual storytelling, emotional inquiry, and therapeutic engagement, often focusing on themes of embodiment, trauma, and healing.

She has been exhibiting nationally and internationally since 2000, with notable shows at the Goethezentrum Hyderabad (2024), Hyderabad Literature Festival (2023), Haze Galerie Berlin, Kunstforum der GEDOK Hamburg, and Camberwell Arts Festival, London. Her artist residencies include Dorland Mountain Arts Colony (USA), University of Hyderabad (2023, 2024), and recent engagements in Kerala, India. In 2018, she launched PopUp Gallery Art & Cake in Hamburg-Heimfeld.
