Riya Chandwani

Statement

Riya Chandwani (b. 10 March 1995, Mumbai, India) is a contemporary Indian artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, painting, printmaking, embroidery, installation, and paper burn techniques. Her work explores intergenerational memory, displacement, and the emotional traces of history, particularly the legacy of the 1947 Partition of India, which displaced her family from Larkana, Sindh.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Sir J. J. School of Art, University of Mumbai (2018–2024). She has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows, including The Parliament Is Now In Session (Gallery Method, Mumbai & Delhi, 2025), Tell It Slant (Prameya Art Foundation, Shrine Empire, Delhi, 2025), Dtale Archist 6 (Gallery Dtale Archist, Bengaluru, 2025), and a solo exhibition at Gallery Futures curated as part of the India Art Fair Young Collectors’ Programme (New Delhi, 2025). Other notable exhibitions include Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai, 2022), Chitramayee State Art Exhibition (2022), Art Society of India (2020–2022), and Bombay Art Society (2020–2021).
