Like archaeological sites with no remains above the ground yet heavy with eras buried beneath, landscapes conceal histories and the narratives of times past, present and future.
Under the surface of its sublime beauty lies the echoes of the brutality of battles lost and worlds birthed, of the beliefs that moulded civilisations, the relentless friction between obdurate ideologies from days bygone, the stark realities of the now and here, and the apprehension of a dystopian tomorrow bereft of reason.
Saturated with aching nostalgia for those who have left them behind, they are reminders of a life lived. The mountains and barren deserts hold our forgotten griefs, our unashamed laughter and the songs of the people we once knew and walked a mile with.
Measuring its depth in an attempt to grasp it, excavating chaos, imagining impending terrains - the artists use their works as metaphors to explore their relationship with landscapes.
